Obvious mutation - Like it or not, there's no hiding what you are. Whether you've got extra appendages, different hued skin, or perhaps there's something else about you that just makes it obvious to anyone looking that you're a mutant, you are what you are. Do you hide it? Try to blend in? Or do you display that difference proudly?

Uncontrollable powers - Maybe you're like Rogue, unable to turn your ability off to be able to touch. Or maybe when you get angry, something darker comes out to play. Either way, whatever it is about you that's different, it isn't always something you have control of. Are you a danger to others? Or maybe yourself? Perhaps your ability is harmless and just inconvenient at worst.

A war's coming - Human or mutant, the clash is brewing and you need to figure out what side you're on. Do you fight for your own kind, or do you try to teach tolerance to both sides?

Let it all hang out - You're a mutant and damn proud of that fact. And hey, what's this? A mutant-only get together. Maybe it's a bar for mutants only. Maybe it's a rave out in the woods. Or maybe it's a resort. Either way, you're among your own kind and there's no judgement here. Have a drink or maybe go for a spin on the dance floor. Either way, just let it all out and be happy that you are what you are.

There's always something to be wary of when it comes to fire. Don't come near fire, was his mother's constant reminder and unlike Joonmyun's peers when he was 8, he didn't have pyromaniac urges to set things on fire just cause. Or for science. He did like fireworks though, because they're pretty and colorful and it reminded him of school festivals in the summer.

He lives a different kind of summer in California now where the heat is sweltering and the temperature abysmal. Probably reminds him of Seoul too, minus the dryness of the air. Joonmyun looks over the pool with longing, watching children do cannonballs while their mothers gossip by the bar, sipping mimosas before lunch. He shouldn't have taken this lifeguard shift for a friend, the worry of someone actually drowning on his watch already scaring the beejesus out of him.

[unregistered mutation: spatio manipulation; can create and manipulate voids in space, mostly uses it to teleport from one place to another. most accurate when travelling alone and for short distances.

limitations: he faces severe handicaps when travelling with others, and runs the risk of an inaccurate "landing" when teleporting long distances, or when teleporting to an area that he has never been too before. when he creates voids in space, they can be about the diameter of a person wide, and it takes extreme concentration to keep them open.]

kai was more than a little alarmed.

less than ten seconds ago he had been on the run; he had been living in a small, somewhat run-down neighbourhood for a few weeks before his neighbours caught wind of his mutation. as expected, it didn't take them more than a few days to grow suspicious of him, not understanding the fact that kai wasn't looking to make a scene, he wasn't looking to make a name for himself or cause trouble. because they didn't understand his mutation, they jumped to conclusions, as mobs were known to do, and came for him with a vengeance.

what were they avenging? their own ignorance, maybe.

back to the problem, flash-forwarding to kai's current predicament, the young teleporter actually found himself suspended in the middle of the air.

of course, he wasn't there long.

milliseconds later, he was dropping as gravity took over, panic overriding his instincts to simply teleport to safety. he wasn't sure how far up he was in the air, but it wasn't long before something wet was breaking his fall. water, he assumed, with a fresh wave of terror setting in. he had no idea how to swim. kai, of course, was completely oblivious to the fact that he had just dropped into the kiddie pool from... well, quite frankly, out of thin air.

Kids scream all the time; Joonmyun had nieces and nephews back home and he didn't know if they were having a great time or being murdered so when the screams came, Joonmyun took a second before running to the pool, catching a split second of a man suspended in the air before making contact with the pool. He could be having hallucinations because of the heat or it could be that other thing; that thing that he also had. Don't panic, was what he mumbled to himself, smiling at an 8 year old who was pointing violently at the water. Some kids already climbed out but some, naturally curious, waited for it. Joonmyun waited for the guy to get up -- the pool wasn't deep anyway, no chance of him drowning -- and extended a hand to help him out of it. "The adults pool is over there," he said, shielding himself from the sun and also to take a good look at the other. Damnit, the CCTV probably caught that, would have caught his reaction too and why he wasn't calling security. Some sick pedo lurking around the kiddie pool? The thought had him squeezing the other's hand just a little tighter just in case he was right. "Want to tell me what the hell are you doing?"
